Trojan War
The Trojan war was a war between the Troy soldiers and the Greece. Troy lost to Odysseus and his men. Odysseus then took over. Trojan people received a horse thinking that they were receiving a surrendering gift but in reality the other soldiers was hiding inside the horse to attack. -

The Trojan war is a very important event to Odysseus. Odysseus lead the Greek soldiers in the battle against the Troy soldiers. If Odysseus hadn’t defeated the Troy soldiers, he wouldn’t be the god he is today. -

Lotus Eaters—Analysis
The lotus eaters were Odysseus’ men. Odysseus and his men were being held by Circe. The Lotus plant caused Odysseus men to forget mostly everything. Circe offered Odysseus food but he didn’t eat it because he was upset at the fact that his men were being held by Circe. -

The Lotus Eaters were a group of people who lived on an island in which the main food supply was the lotus plants and flowers. The plants can possibly hurt the people who eat the plant. -

Cyclops
Cyclops is a monster with one eyeball who favored Poseidon. He lived with goats and sheep. When Odysseus came to his land he got mad because Odysseus said he crashed his boat boat and had to stay there. The Cyclops started to eat Odysseus’ men, but when Odysseus gave Cyclops gifts he decided to spare him for the time being. Odysseus told Cyclops that his name was Nohbody so when he stabbed Cyclops in the eye, he would say that “Nohbody stabbed him in the eye”. -

Cyclops—Analysis
Odysseus knew that he and his men couldn’t move the stone to escape so he tricked Cyclops. He blinded(injured) Cyclops that they would be able to move the stone and escape from the cave. -

Circe
Circe is a witch who turned Odysseus’ men into pigs. She put all of the men under a spell except for Odysseus because he couldn’t hear the spell that was being put on the men. Her parents were Helios and Perse. She didn’t let Odysseus’ men eat when she held them all hostage. Circe wanted Odysseus to eat but he didn’t want to because he had the thought that his man were not getting treated correctly. -

Circe—Analysis
Circe made the event with the Sirens be possible. She was the one who told Odysseus to listen to the Sirens to hear what beautiful sound they make. Circe was a big part of Odysseus’ life because she taught him many different thing when she was holding him. -

Aeolus- Bag of Wind
Aeolus is the ruler of wind. He helped Odysseus get back to his destined location. He gave Odysseus a closed bag with with the winds to gently push him back home. There was more than one Aeolus but many people had trouble telling the difference because of how much their myths are alike. The first Aeolus was the son of Hellen and creator of the Aeolus race. The second Aeolus was the son of Poseidon and he led a colony. The third Aeolus was the actual keeper of the bag of wind. -

Scylla and Charybdis
Scylla and Charybdis are like a team. Scylla is a six headed monster who will eat your ship if you pass her. Charybdis is a whirl pool that sucks in any ship. Odysseus and his men had to get passed these two characters on their way home from Ithaca to Troy. -

In many cases the ship would get swallowed by either one of these “characters” or things. Odysseus got pass these two things and went on with his life. -

Sirens
Sirens are mythical creatures that lured people in with the enchanting music and beautiful voices to destroy the sailors’ ships. There has been many theories in which Sirens were mistaken as a made up creature called mermaids. On Odysseus’ way back home to Troy, he came across these mythical creatures. -

Sirens—Analysis
Odysseus was interested in what the Sirens sounded like. Circe had gave him advice that made him very interested in the voices of the Sirens. Since he really wanted to hear the Sirens, he told his men to plug their ears and tie him up to the chair tightly so he could hear. -

Helios Cattle
Helios cattle is the God of the sun and many herd of animals. Helios was upset because Odysseus and his men hurt the herd of sheep. Him and his men grabbed on to the sheeps’ fur and hurt them. After this Helios told Zeus to punish Odysseus for what he did to the animals. -

Suitors/Home
The suitors were all in Odysseus' house with the thought that he was dead. They were all competing for Penelope's hand in marriage. It was most likely that Antinous (the new man who was basically replacing Odysseus) was going to win and be married to Penelope. Antinous took all of Odysseus' workers and forced them to do tasks that they didn't want to do. -

Suitors/Home—Analysis
Odysseus was upset because he knew that none of the stuff that was going would have been going on if he was there. He felt like the “new man” tried to make his home and servants into things that they were not. Odysseus end up killing the leader of all of this trouble, and keeping his wife and home. -

Helios Cattle—Analysis
The god of the sun really cherished his animals and when Odysseus and his men hurt them, he felt really upset. He threatened the men to take the sun away from the Underworld and shine it on the dead. After the threat, all of Odysseus’ men were killed by Zeus and only Odysseus survived.
