During this time Jews, Anti-Semitism, or hatred of the Jews had a long history in many European countries. For decades many Germans looking for a scapegoat had blamed the Jews as the cause of their failures. -
The Persecution Begins
After Hitler took power over Germany he ordered all "non-Aryans" to be removed from the government jobs. This was the first movement into what we call the Holocaust. -
Nazis Tighten Hold
Their persecution on the Jews had begun to increase. The Nuremberg Laws stripped Jews of their German citizenship, jobs, and property. To make it easier for the Germans to spot Jews, they made them wear bright yellow Stars of David. -
Kristallnacht
Other wise known as the "Night of Broken Glass." The Nazis storm troopers attack Jewish homes, businesses, and synagogues across Germany and Austria. Around 100 Jews were killed and hundreds more injured. Some 30,000 Jews were arrested and hundreds of synagogues more were injured. -
St. Louis
A German ocean liner passed Miami, was filled with immigrants. 740 out of the 943 had legal immigration papers. But the Coast Guard wouldn't let them through. So the ship was forced back into Europe. More than half of the passengers were killed in the Holocaust. -
The Final Solution
A policy of genocide, a deliberate and systematic murder of an entire population. -
Death Camps
Death camps were somthing that was like the last step for the Jews. This was something that would kill millions of Jews. The most catastrophic of them all were Chelmno and Auschmitz. -
The Final Stage
A meeting was held in Wannsee a lakeside suburb where they held a meeting.
