Germany invades Poland by sending Nazi troops into Jewish homes. They robbed, beat, and kicked Jews out of their homes. This is the beginning of World War 2 and the Holocaust.

Rivas mother gets taken away by the Nazis. This happens when Riva is only 16 years old. Riva is left alone to take care of her younger siblings alone.

Rivas younger brother Motele steals firewoord. He does this to keep the family warm with fire. The Nazi soldiers com to the house and take Motele in. He comes bac k guilty but he is uninjured.

Rivas younger brother Laibele dies. He dies from tuberculolis during peasach. Riva is upset but knows that she must move on and continue living her life.

Riva and her family get sent to Auschwitz. Auschwitz is a concentration camp. She is seperated from her brothers when they arrive.

Riva gets blood poisoning in her hand. She goes to the camp doctor, and she decides that she has to go to a hospital. The commandt and the camp doctor go with her to town to get an operation.

On this date the Holocaust ends. Soviet troops liberate Auschwitz and the Nazis fled. The Jewish prisoners were free.
