The program was 72 years old but due to high cost and low attendence by fans the school felt it necessary to get rid of the sport.

    In June 2010 the North Shore LIJ- Health System and School of Medicine officially opened its doors to the public. The medical school enrolled it's first class during the summer which contained 40 students.

    Hofstra Hosts its 75th Anniversary Diamond Weekend
    Hofstra celebrated its 75th anniversary with events held for both students and alumni. The four day long “Diamond Weekend” featured tours of the school, model classes, an evening comedy show with Jimmy Fallon, a concert, fireworks, a carnival, and class reunions for the years 1940, '45, '50, '55, '60, '65, '70, '75, '80, '85, '90, '95, '00, and '05.

    WRHU Begins Broadcasting the New York Islanders
    In 2010 the Hofstra radio station WRHU was asked to begin broadcasting the New York Islanders hockey team. This was the first time a student ran radio station would broadcast for a professional sports franchise.

    Hofstra men's basketball retired Charles Jenkins' jersey, number 22. After playing for the Pride for four years, Jenkins went on to play in the NBA for the Goldern State Warrios and the 76ers.

    For the second time Hofstra University was chosen to hold the Presidential Debate. It was between current US President Barrack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney. The debate was town hall style and was the second of three debates held during the election.
