    Adolf Hitler was born in Braunau am Inn, Austria. The son of Alois and Klara.
    Historical signifance:
    It was the day when a dictator who later becomes the leader of the Nazi Party is born. He created a long lasting change for Germany.
  • Death of his Father

    Death of his Father
    Cause of death was either a heart attack or stroke.
    Historical perspective:
    The death of his father changed the his life. His father was a strict man forcing Adolf to take a path he did not desire, Hitler wanted to be an artist so now he had a chance to pursue a career path of his own choice after his fathers death.
  • Hitler drops out of school

    Hitler drops out of school
    Hitler uses a lung ailment as an excuse to not go to school, and eventually drops out all together. He doesn't make any effort to get a job, he considers himself far beyond that.
    Cause and Affect:
    Hitler left school at 16 because he did not like it basically, he refused to conform with the discipline and just was not interested in anything but War and Art, he later went to Venice to study at the fine Arts academy but was turned down twice.

    Klara Hitler died from breast cancer. Her death affected him far more deeply than the death of his father.
    Historical significance:
    When Hitler failed his entrance exam for art school, soon after he found out that his mother had breast cancer. This was a depressing and hard time for Adolf and after a while his mother passed away. The death of his mother also leads him to join the military which causes great damage which is very significant.
  • Hitler moves to Vienna.

    At the age of 17, Hitler moves to Vienna, the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
    Historical Significance:
    Adolf moves to Vienna where he doesn't get accepted into art school, this leads him to join the army.

    This is a turning point in his life because his dream of becoming an artist was destroyed. After his mother passed, he put all his effort into becoming a soldier which will lead him to eventually become the leader of the nazi party.
    Cause and Affect:The cause was that he was rejected from the vienna academy of fine arts from where he wanted to become an artist. The effect of this was that he later became military personnel later that eventually led him to become the leader of the nazi party.

    Hitler begins Military Service in WW1
    After ignoring his army orders in 1909 because of his hate for Austria and later being rejected by the Austrian army for being too weak, Hitler volunteers for Germany. With a war happening, medical examinations were not a strict and Hitler is accepted.
    Cause and Affect:
    The cause of this was that because he could not accomplish his dreams of becoming an artist he decided to join the Germany army in WW1.
  • Hitler is blinded by Mustard gas

    While fighting the British, Hitler is blinded by a mustard gas attack. He regains his sight but while he is recovering he is deeply depressed and spends much of his time crying.
    Historical perspective:
    During the WW1, blindness was most common, mostly due to the use of mustard gas.
  • Hitler is elected the leader of the new Nazi Party. (Turning Point)

    Hitler wins an election and becomes the leader of new political party, named Nazi. The party's official name is National Socialist German Workers Party and it believes that equality is only for Germans, not Jews or immigrants.
    Historical Significance:
    Hitler's leadership caused a long lasting change because throughout his leadership he killed a lot of Jews which affected many Germans. His leadership lead to WW2.
  • Hitler is sentenced to five years in prison for treason.

    The Nazis unsuccessfully try to take over the German government and Hitler is sentenced to prison for five years for treason. While there, he dictates his autobiography and book of political ideas, "Mein Kampf," to Rudolph Hess.
    Cause and Affect/Historical Significance:
    Nazi's first attempt at taking over the German government by force was immediately shut down. This was an important event since the growing Nazi party's leader was going to jail for treason.
  • Hitler is released from prison

    Adolf Hitler was released from prison and his 5 year sentence was cancelled.
    Historical significance:
    Hitler had learned from his mistakes and he wanted to improve the Nazi party.
  • The Jewish Holocaust begins.

    The Nazis, led by Hitler, begin to systematically eliminate Jews from Eastern Europe. At least six million Jews will be killed, many in brutal concentration camps, before the Holocaust ends in 1945.
    Ethical Dimension:
    It is morally wrong for a leader to kill millions of people in the world. They killed Jews just to take their anger out on them which is not acceptable.
  • Hitler becomes Germany's dictator (Turning Point)

    After being named chancellor of Germany in 1933, a presidential election is held in 1934 that Hitler easily wins. He is now firmly in power as dictator of Germany with the title of Fuhrer.
    Continuity and Change/Ethical Dimension:
    He took advantage of his position and caused harm upon the innocent people. Even now there are leaders such as Hitler who rule certain countries in such a harsh way.
  • Hitler declares war against the United States.

    Four days after Japan bombs Pearl Harbor, Hitler declares war against the U.S. Germany had no agreement with Japan, but Hitler likes the fact that he is now the center of World War II, the biggest war the world has ever seen.
    Historical Perspective:
    When Hitler declared war, US was facing a very hardtime, not only were they facing the great depression, they were having an on-going war against Japan when Germany joined in.
  • Hitler survives an assassination attempt.

    Hitler escapes serious injury when a bomb explodes at his headquarters in Berlin. It is the third assassination attempt against Hitler. A senior officer is blamed for planting the bomb.
    Historical perspective:
    At the time people were very fed up by Hitlers commands and his beliefs, the only way to express their selves was to eliminate Hitler. The senior officer was most likely paid to kill him.
  • Hitler commits suicide in Berlin

    Hitler commits suicide in Berlin
    Trying to avoid being captured by Soviet troops, Hitler kills himself. He commits suicide by shooting himself in the head while biting down on a poisonous cyanide capsule.
