    The Treaty of Versailles was signed. The treaty was harsh on Germany, so Hitler, a former WW1 soldier, tried to use the anger of Germany to rise to power. Since, it angered the Germans, Hitler decided to reach out and use that anger to spike nationalism in support of him.

    The Dawes Plan helped slow inflation. Prices raised and the value of gold went up. This was the Germans plan for economic recovery. This made them pay only limited payments until 1929 to help Germany economy rise.

    Hitler published the first volume of Mein Kampf. Hitler was writing this book while he was in jail. This book set forth his beliefs and his goals for Germany. Mein Kampf says that Germans (Aryans) were the master race. He believed that Jews, Slav, and gypsies, were inferior. He also said that the Treaty of Versailles should be changed and that Germany was overcrowded.

    The chance that Hitler was looking for. Slow economic recovery was wiped away by the Great Depression. The Great Depression started in the US and spread to dozens of other countries. Germany was affected because the US was supporting them financially. Millions of Germans lost their jobs, savings, and seemingly their logic because they started looking for Hitler to lead them.

    The economic sytem fell in 1929, but people had been expected it, since America was largely sustaining the worlds economy. This caused many serious problems. There was overproduction, which led to the unemployment rate spiking up. And an uneven distribution of wealth. The depression was also led by Americans buying less. As the depression was getting worse, it was said that the richest 5% of America were getting 33% of all personal income.

While Hitler focused on traditional campaigning, the paramilitary SA, and engaging in a struggle for “control of the streets.” They battled Communists and other political opponents and resorted to acts of terrorism. Also, people started relying on foreign trade.

    Germany had reached its all time high unemployment rate along with the United States and Great Britain. There was a 30% unemployment rate in Germany when in 1928, it was an 8% unemployment rate.

    Hitler was appointed chancellor of Germany by advising the President Paul von Hindenburg to name him chancellor. Once he was in office, Hitler called for new elections, hoping to win a parliamentary majority. But six days before election, a fire destroyed the building.     HItler almost completed his takeover over Germany. Hitler purged leaders of the SA and had them executed without trials (June). The SS arrested and murdered hundreds of Hitler’s enemies. No one did anything about it, they all midlessly followed him.

    After taking over, the Nazi's tried to quickly take over the economy. They banned strikes, and dissolved independent labor unions. They also gave government authority over business and labor. But, helping with the unemployment rate, he put millions of Germans to work as laborers. As a result, the number of unemployment dropped from 6 to 1.5 million.

    Anti-semitism was the hatred of Jews, even though they were less than one percent of the population, the Nazi's used them as their scapegoats for all of Germany's problems since the war ened. In 1933, the Nazi's passed laws depriving Jews of many of their rights. But on this night, Nazi mobs attacked Jews in their homes and on the streets and desroyed thousand of Jewish owned buildings. This night was called Kristallnacht, which signaled the real start of eliminating Jews from Germany.
