    America gained alot of land in the west from france in the compromise.

    There were tariffs put on the country and the southern states thought it was unfair, especially South Carolina that threatened to secede.

    Compromise of 1850
    Senator Henry Clay introduced a series of resolutions on January 29, 1850, in an attempt to seek a compromise and avert a crisis between North and South. As part of the Compromise of 1850, the Fugitive Slave Act was amended and the slave trade in Washington, D.C., was abolished.

    In the time of slavey, slaves began to ilegally run away from plantations to to north where they were free. This act made northerners who found escaped slaves bring them back to the south where they were treated badly even though the northerners were against slavery.

    During a political gathering in Kansas, there was a mini war between anti and pro slavery people and there was fire and gunshots and John Brown killed some people.

    Dred Scott was a slave that traveled with his owner. One time when he and his owner went to the north, he realized that he was technically free and sued his owner. Unfortunately for him and other slaves, the suing pushed congress to pass a law that even if you are black and in the north, you are not free.

    A northern man named John Brown wanted slaves to fight for themselves and their freedom and other rights so he burned a building but got caught and was sent to jail.

    This is the election where Lincoln becomes president. After the election, southern states started to secede from the union and made the confedarates.
