    After a March to Washington, Martn Luther King gave his famous "I have a Dream" Speech which had a major impact on the Civil Rights Movement.

    Chavez was the original founder of the United Farm Workers and migrant farm workers fought for fair wages. A turning point came whe the Farm Workers Association voted to strike in the Delano grape fields. Members of the Agrigultural Workers Organizing committee walked out on strike protesting on poor pay and conditions

    Vietnam was a war where American troup strength in Vietnam was close to 500,000 and there were over 15000 in US casualties killed. Over 109,000 were wounded. Vietnam was a very costly war for the US costng some $25 billion per year. Every day Vietnam reported more and more casualties requiring more soldiers. The draft system added fuel to the fire of the aniti war movement.

    Martin Luther King was assassinated supporting the Memphis, TN sanitation workers strike. This was a fight for environmental and economic justice.

    In Schultz vs. Wheaton Glass, a US Court of Appeals ruled that jobs held by men and women need to be "substantiially equal" but not idential to fall under the protection of the Equal Pay Act. For example, an employer cannot change the job titles of women workers in order to pay tem less than men. It was significant to this act because it gained women's rights.
