    The middle passage is the part of the triangular trade where the slave traders bring the slaves to America. The middle passage has a huge impact on society by bringing all of the slaves in this path to the cities like New York to be sold to work down south. 1.8 million people died on the trip of the middle passage. Their bodies were thrown into the atlantic ocean.

    The fugitive slave clause is if any white citizen finds run away slaves, they must send them back to their right farm or they will be prosecuted. They cant aid the slaves or help them. This affected the society because slaves didnt have the option to even think about running away without getting caught. this helped slave owners keep their slaves working.

    Congress was trying to preserve the balance of power and wealth between the slave states and the free states. In 1820 they turned Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state. This changed a lot for the slave progression throughout the united states. Making Missouri a slave state pleases the south and making Maine a free state pleases the north.

    Nat Turner was a black slave who was tired of the abuse, he ran away, and made a gang, or rebellion to attack his owner. They murdered him and his family. They went around town killing 51 white people. When they were caught they were all hanged or shot. This affected how slaves felt about rebelling against their owner in a positive and negative way. This rebellion led to the start of the Civil War. This happened in Southampton County Virginia.

    The underground railroad is a secret network of secret safe houses and people to help slaves escape. It wasnt really underground, it was above ground but a route of safe houses. The underground impacted society by saving thousands of slaves lives. This took place in the slave states up to the free states.

    Dred Scott sued for his freedom. He was in illonois which is a free state. Dred Scott sued the slave owner because he was in a free state but his slave owner said he´d never become a free citizen. Dred Scott ended up dying to tuberculosis on September 17, 1858.

    The compromise of 1850 dealt with the issue of slavery territorial expansion and how they are treating slaves. The fugitive slave act started but slave trade in Washington ended. The effect of the compromise started to lead towards the civil war because they admitted California to be a free state.

    Uncle Toms Cabin was a book written by the author Harriet Beecher Stowe about the living through the horrors of slavery. Her book ended up showing several Americans how bad slavery is. The book was very popular and ended up selling the amount of 1.5 million copies.

    The north generally didnt want slavery in Kansas, the tension between the two sides (south and north) wanted the state to their selves as either a slave state or a free state. The affect of all the tension of wanting Kansas ended up starting the civil war with all of the conflict leading up to it.

    John Browns raid started lots of tension throughout the country by the slaves. The slaves saw what John Brown did and thought of strategies and uprisings, in October of 1859 John lead his small army to an armory and stole guns and more. The attempt was starting a rebellion but it ended up being unsucessful and not working.

    The emancipation proclamation granted complete freedom to all of the slaves in the confederate states, if the other states didnt come back to the union before january 1st of the next year. So if the union won the war (of course they did) the slaves would all be freed and generally protected as usa citizens.
