Magnetic tape
Magnetic tape was invented by German engineer Fritz Pfleumer. This device was used to record sound, pictures and computer data available at the time. This product was made with plastic strip, and coat the plastic film with magnetic material, also this product was improved from magnetic wire. Hard disk
IBM in 1956 invented the first hard disk, the first hard disk could store upto 5MB. Also used magnetic force to store data, but this device was the first to use magnetic disk. Compare to magnetic tape, hard disk was able to store more data, but up to this point there were minor modifications to magnetic tape. DRAM(PDF)
This device was invented by Robert H. Dennard in 1966, DRAM(Dynamic Random Access Memory technology) was the early form of digital memory storage and has more emphasis on electrical circuit than magnets. DRAM in comparison to older data storages increased memory density. Info from: http://www.zetta.net/about/blog/history-data-storage-technology -
CD
Compact Disk(CD) was invented by James Russel in 1980s, he was able to invent this product because of his thought of using light to record and replay music. This product was presented to Sony by James so it was widely sold in Sony. Info from: http://www.zetta.net/about/blog/history-data-storage-technology -
Flash memory Card
This device was invented by Dr.Fujio Masuoka, he worked for Toshiba so this product was first presented by Toshiba. Memory cards use digital information, unlike many inventions previously using magnetic force. Of course this invention can hold way more memory compare to previous inventions, but compared to its size, this device can hold a lot of memory. SD card
SD cards were invented by SanDisk, Matsushita, and Toshiba in 1999. It was based on Multimedia Card(MMC) from 1997, but SD cards compared to MMC were more common and widely used my portable devices such as phones, cameras, and etc. Also through this device the information between devices has gotten faster. Microdrive (Flash drive)
First USB flash drive was introduced by Dov Moran of M-Systems, but IBM began selling these commercially in 2000s. Flash Drive was a device that can store and also export informations through USB drive in PC. This device allowed more information to be traveled through short amount of time and the device was also portable. Holographic Storage
Holographic Storage is the best data storage currently, it is used in some places, but it is still being developed. It kinds of work similar to CD and DVD, but it holds more and dense data for longer time. It can transfer very dense idea quickly than any other devices. The inventor of this device is not specified.
