Yahoo Geocities Launches
Anyone could create a website. Active in the United States until 2009. Users selected a "city" to put their content, based on what the content was about. (computers, entertainment, etc.) -
Facebook launches
Founded by a group of Harvard students including Mark Zuckerberg. Allows users to add friends, like pages, and communicate with people across the world. -
Twitter launches
Founded in San Francisco by Evan Williams and associates. Popular microblogging site in which users post "tweets" of 140 characters. Today there are approx. 307 million monthly users
