    Asteroids was a very popular arcade game. The game was designed by Lyle Rains and it is a space-themed arcade game. In 1979, Asteroids became the first game to allow high scorers to enter in three character initials to be stored in the machine.

    In 1989, NEC releases the first 16-bit console in the U.S. The console is called TurboGrafx-16. The game console retailed for $189.

    In 1995 Sony releases their first PlayStation. The PS1 only contained 32-bits. The game console retailed for $299.

    During the early times of video gaming, the violence showed was a big topic of discussion. In 1997, Arizona attempted to make the display or distribution of violent material to minors illegal. Thankfully the bill was not approved otherwise mega hit games like Mortal Kombat would not be legal for us minors.

    Japan in 1998, Sega introduced the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast operates on Microsoft Windows CE. This allowed for easier conversions between Dreamcast and PC games.

    In the year 2000 the PlayStation 2 was released. It was sold for about $300. The PlayStation 2 is the best selling console of all-time.

    In 2006, Nintendo released the Wii. This gaming system allowed users to use the remote as a tool for sports such as tennis and baseball. The game used sensors to track the users movements with the remote.

    In 2009 a Nintendo game became the best-selling video game of all time. Nintendo's Wii Sports became the best-selling video ever with over 40 million units sold. It was bittersweet news for Nintendo because the previous record holder was Nintendo's Super Mario Bros.
