It was invented in 1958 by Arthur “Spud” Melin. He was inspired by Chinese acrobats twirling multiple hoops on their arms, torsos, and legs. He paired with Richard Knerr to manufacture and sell these colorful toys. Within months, 25 million were sold. Although it lost popularity, but it had a quick comeback in recent years. -

In the first week it was released 1.5 million units were sold. The most sold game was Mario Kart with 38.74 million units sold. 92.8 million units have been sold since 2021 and more are still selling today.
