Mainframe Computer
A mainframe computer is this very large computer that is capable of holding very large amounts of data. They are used by government, large institutions, banking, etc. The name of the first mainframe computer is Automatic Sequence Controlled Calculator, or ASSC. The mainframe computer was developed by IBM. -
Calculator
The first calculator was created in the 1960s, but the smaller versions were available in the 1970s. This was created along with the microprocessor by Intel. -
BASIC
BASIC is a family of general-purpose, high-level programming languages whose design philosophy emphasizes ease of use. In 1964, the BASIC language was created by John K. and Thomas K. After some years, BASIC fell from use because of greater machines being produced. -
Microprocessor
The first microprocessors emerged in the early 1970s and were used mostly for electronic calculators. Microprocessors were first created by Intel. -
Microcomputer
A microcomputer is a small, inexpensive computer with a microprocessor as it's CPU. It includes a microprocessor, memory, and minimal input/output circuits. This was created and very popular during the 1970-80s, but has now fallen out of common use. -
First personal computer: Altair 8800
The first personal computer was founded in January, 1975. Personal computers came in kits, and you would have to put the computer together yourself. Often, it would not work. There was no where you could plug in a keyboard or connect to a PC, all it had was switches. There was no real use for this, really. It was just a cool thing to have back in the day. -
Homebrew Computer Club
The Homebrew Computer Club was an early computer hobbyist group in Silicon Valley which met from March 5, 1975 to December 1986. The group gathered up information on computers, they were also very high-profile hackers. This club helped launch the computer revolution. -
Visicalc
VisiCalc was the first ever spreadsheet program for personal computers. VisiCalc was one of the key products that helped bring the microcomputer from the hobbyist's desk into the office. Before VisiCalc, microcomputers were thought of as just toys. VisiCalc changed that.
