History of the Computer

  • First Computer

    First Computer
Konrad Zuse started creating the first computer in 1934 and finished in 1938. This computer was called Z1.
I chose this event as a milestone because it was the first computer made and set an example for all other computers to be built.
  • First HP Computer

    First HP Computer
In Palo Alto, California in a garage, David Packard and Bill Hewlett founded HP and made their first computer. HP 200A Audio Oscillator.
I chose this event in history because it was the first model that a big comuter company made and many engineers and movie directors used it for sound effects.
  • Whirlwind Flight Simulator

    Whirlwind Flight Simulator
In 1943, the during World War II flight simulators were made at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology after being confronted by the U.S. Navy.
I chose this event in history because te Whirlwind flight simulators helped bombing crews train for their job.
  • EDSAC

    EDSAC
Maurice Wilkes created the first practical stored-program computer at Cambridge University.
This is important because it was the first time computers could save anything.
  • Magnetic Core Memory

    Magnetic Core Memory
At MIT, Jay Forrester made the first magnetic core memory and installed it in the Whirlwind flight simulator.
The invention is so significant because it made Whirlwinds more reliable, faster, and easier to make. Also, this type of memory stuck around until the 1970's.
  • Integrated Circuit

    Integrated Circuit
Jack Kilby invened the first integrated circuit at Texas Instruments.
This invention was important because it proved that resistors and capacitators could exist on the same pice of semiconductor material.
  • NPN Transistor

    NPN Transistor
The first widely accepted gold-doped NPN transistor wa made by Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corp.
This was good because it served as the industry workhouse for discrete logic.
  • The Apollo Guidance Computer

    The Apollo Guidance Computer
The Apollo Guidance Computer made its debut in 1968 during the Apollo 11 mission.
This helped steer them to the lunar surface and astronauts could communicate wit it by punching two digit numbers in.
  • First Personal Computer

    First Personal Computer
The Kenbak-1, the first personal computer was designed by John V. Blankenbaker 1971.
This milestone is signifant because the computer was small and likeable for people to buy.
  • Visual Display Module

    Visual Display Module
The first VDM (Visual Display Module) was created in 1975 by Lee Felsenstein.
This was the first actual video display for personal computers.
