    Emporer Constantine Foumded Byzantine Capital

    In 330 AD, emporer Constantine moved the capital of the Roman empire to Byzantium. Then renamed the city Constantinople. Their were advantages to having the city here such as being closer to the center of the empire.

    Justinian Became Emporer of Byzantines

    Justinian became emporer and wanted the empire to grow and become stronger.Justinian was 45 years old when he became emporer and ruled for 38 years until the year 565.

    Geberal Belarius Campaigns

    Starting in 533, Belarius was sent with a small group of soilders to attack another group in North Africa. The group he defeated was the Vandal kingdom. In 535 he started a campaign northward defeating Naples and then he was offered to be an emporer for the Goths in 540 and took the offer. He eventually lost power in 544.

    Haiga Sophia Completed

    In 537 after the cities riots and problems throughout the city were over, Justinian order tro rebuild the church. The interior waas redone with expensive colored marble walling. Also marble collums were built inside.

    Emporer Basil ll military conquests

    Between 976 and 1025 Basil II expanded his rule over Bulgaria, Mesoptomia, Georgia, and Armenia. During his time he showed strength in some parts and weakness in other. He was a good ruler and was strong when it came to military conquests.

    Great Schism

    Known as the East-West Schism, divided Christianity into Western Roman and Eastern Orthodoxy. This was a division between two churches. What caused this was the Roman Pope thought he held authority over everything.

    Alexius and Pope Urban the II

    Alexius I had asked for help against the Islam amd Turks and Pope Urban the II helped him.Pope Urban II made a great speech in history giving a rise to the Crusades by calling Christians to go against the Muslims.

    Fourth Crusade

    In 1204 the Crusades went agianst Constantinople and that began the decline of the Byzantines. The crusades were putting the end on the Byzantine faith.

    The End of the Byzantines

    The Byzantine was on a decline and was losing a good amount of territory. Finally Ottoman Empire and Mehmet II conquered Constantinople and took over the government.,
