    Brown v. Board. of Education of Topeka
    This helped desegregate school, and make education equal for everyone attending the school. This decision changed the previous ruling in the 1896 case of Plessy v. Ferguson. This was one of the first steps towards equality in education.
  • Little Rock 9

    Little Rock 9
    Governor Orval Faubus ordered the Arkansas National Guard to prevent nine African American students from enrolling at Central High School. This made the public go into a panic because these nine students were trying to attend a segregated high school.
  • The ACT

    The first ACT test was administered to students to compete with the SAT. Everett Franklin Lindquist was the professor who created the test, at the University of Iowa. This has been the main test to be used in admissions in colleges.

    This decision made by the supreme court, ruled that at no time in the day, students in public schools can read or speak about the Bible. If the student is caught, they can be removed from the school. This was the beginning of separating any type of religion from public schools.

    Learning Disabilities Association of America,
    Samuel A. Kirk uses the term "learning disability" at a Chicago conference on children with learning disorders. The term stuck with educators and helped started the Learning Disabilities Association of America in 1964. Without Samuel Kirk many students would not receive the help they deserve in schools.

    Coral Way Elementary School created the first bilingual school for students in Miami after the Cuban Revolution. Without this school, many other schools would not be able to become bilingual in the next couple of years. Without this school, many students would not be able to use their native language and learn new information.

     Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)
    This act helped students in poverty receive an equal education. This act was created by Lyndon Johnson's due to the "War on Poverty". This act helped student who are living in poverty and bilingual receive an education with the help from the government. Without this bill, many students, now would not be able to receive anything.
  • Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Children (PARC) v. Pennsylvania

    Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Children (PARC) v. Pennsylvania
    This allowed any student who has a disability a free public education. This helped parents with the cost of expenses they have to pay to help their child, and this also allows the child to have an education to help them live a fulfilling life. Without this many students would not be able to have an equal education not matter their disability.

    Columbia University
    Columbia University, became the last ivy league college to accept women in undergraduate programs. They have awarded degrees to women before, but they final were the last, to make every college coeducational.
