First Bilingual Public School
Due to the large immigration influx of Cuban children, the first bilingual public school was founded. This helps add more opportunities and education for youth that are not fluent in English- being more multicultural. -
Civil Rights Act
This prevented discrimination against race, gender, color, etc. Allowed people of color the same education rights as white people. -
Title IX
Helped protect women's rights for sports and an equal education. Also gave women rights if they ever got harassed. -
Equal Education Opportunities Act
It prohibits discrimination and requires schools to take action to overcome barriers which prevent equal protection. It also helps students who are not fluent in English. This helps protect their cultural background and doesn't discriminate. -
Education of All Handicapped Children
Gave handicapped children the right to an equal and free education. This helped fulfill the needs of handicapped children. -
Refugee Act of 1980
Helped provide assistance and equal education to refugees. Special needs and issues were allowed to be solved in the classroom. -
Plyler v. Doe
This case allows public education for undocumented school-age children. It also says that there will be no tuition fees. This helps spread multicultural reform. -
Board of Education v. Pico
Books cannot be removed from a school library because school administrators deemed their content to be offensive. This helps freedom of speech and lets kids read whatever they want to. -
Emergency Immigrant Education Act
This case provides services and offset the costs for school districts that have unexpectedly large numbers of immigrant students. This helps supports education for immigrants. -
Universal Preschool
4 year olds are allowed to be enrolled in school. This provides an earlier education for the youth.
