Serina Bean as a toddler
A skill I learned was to hold a fish. As a toddler there was a change in my ability of what I could understand of the world and the many things that are in it.
2009 swine flu pandemic began in North America.
I believe that one of my family members had gotten the flu and died from the illness. which had affected me in some way because I couldn’t see that important family member when I was younger and I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t see them. -
Learning New Subjects with Serina Bean
A skill I learned was to skate without falling on my butt like my brothers. I also learned how to read words from preschool. My ability to read and write increased.
2011 — The Syrian Civil War begins, a conflict still being fought to this day
Having this war going on affected the economy so the money to help my parents out with all their bills and stuff that needed to be paid affected me because we couldn’t do much even though I am grateful for what I have. -
New Adventures of Math with Serina Bean
I learned addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Learning these skills help me in my journey of growing up and helped me grow my mind and would alter what kind of path I would take later in life.
The Moore, Okla. Tornado
Some of my family members actually lived there at the time and those members I was actually close to so it affected me emotionally with what happened there and I didn’t know for sure if they was okay or not. -
Story that Inspired Serina Bean
I learned what grades were. Which ended up becoming an important part of my life. At this stage in my life it changed how I wanted to be in school and I taught myself to value what I have and make my parents and family proud of me.
2014 — Malala Yousafazi becomes the youngest ever recipient of a Nobel Prize
She actually inspired me to become better in school and focus more on my history and school wise because her story affected me on how I thought about school. -
New Abilities Serina Bean Learned
My new skill was my dressing sense. I became more organized with the new ability of knowing how to dress. Also It made my mind develop more and taught me other new skills like being more confident in a way so it made me stand out more and make new friends.
2015 — PREVENTING IRAN FROM OBTAINING A NUCLEAR WEAPON
From this event not going into plan it made my parents less worried and actually most likely not totally caused me to get affected by it other than possibly being homeschooled. -
Childhood Improvement of Serina Bean
The skill I learned was reading bigger words. My knowledge and ability to read changed over the course of this year. I had always struggled with reading bigger words so it was a big improvement for me.
An outbreak of the Zika virus is linked to a cluster of cases of microcephaly.
This virus made my parents a little scared so they made it where they were more strict on where I went and what friends I was staying out with because they were worried I might catch that virus and make me sick. -
Serina Bean Overcoming her Fears
I learned many skills in this part of my life but the one I remember mostly is that it’s okay to adventure and do many new objectives. The change I encountered was my mindset and motivation.
August 21: A solar eclipse passes throughout the contiguous United States for the first time since 1918.
It was a once in a lifetime sight to see at the time which affected me because I got to see it and learn from it when it happened. -
Finding Out Who I Want to Become
My skills in making friends had improved and I learned how to write my first essay in language arts. This year I found out more clearly who I want to be and what I want to do in my life which changed me in some ways.
The first monkeys are cloned, and first genetically modified humans reported, in China.
This historic event interested me to the point it affected me on how I thought about the subject and where we actually came from and I thought more in depth of how everything first started. -
Dealing with New Emotions with Serina Bean
I learned the skill of organization which helped me a lot in keeping track of my school work and my valuables. The changes I encountered were my insecurities and anxiety. Which changed a lot on how I viewed myself and it affected a great part of my life.
The United States blames attacks on ships in the Gulf of Oman on Iran, escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf.
This made me scared when I first learned about it all I could think about was what if a war happened and history repeated itself. -
Pandemic that Changed Serina Bean
The skills I learned was how a pandemic can really change people’s lives and how they lived. Covid 19, made me become less motivated to go outside and do anything. I forgot that there was a whole world outside.
May 25: The murder of George Floyd sparks protests across the United States and the world.
My mental state was affected because of how something happened out of nowhere could create such a huge event in a matter of days. I was scared of what else could happen. -
Serina Bean New Experiences
I learned how to work with a group of people. With working in groups it changed me with how I communicate with people now.
January 6: Supporters of President Donald Trump, gathered after a rally led by him, attack the United States capitol, leading to five deaths.
It affected me in a way that my mind believes that no matter how many people disagree or agree on something the government does it won’t matter because the government is what controls people one way or another. -
Serina Bean Becoming Better
I learned how to speak up to people. The skill made me more confident around people and I grew more as a person from learning that skill.
Russia invades Ukraine, escalating the Russo-Ukrainian War, causing a refugee crisis and tens of thousands of deaths on both sides.
The event affected me and my family because of how worried we were. Those families who are trying to have a simple and normal life had to go through stuff like that just because the governments we have aren’t all buddy buddy. -
Present Time of Serina Bean
I learned how to care less about what people think of me. This skill made me have more of a clear mind on what I can do instead of having my mind all fogged up with what people might think of me.
Beginning in March 2023, and with increased intensity starting in June, Canada has been affected by an ongoing, record-setting series of wildfires.
The wildfires affected me because I had to stay home and watch out for the air quality since if I breathed in too much my health could get affected by it.
