    The first time a form of media was broadcasted to a wider audience was in 868 AD, the media was a book printed in China called "Diamond Sutra"

    Invention of the printing press

    In the 15th century the printing press was invented, this led to mass production of media through things like books and newspapers.

  • Magazines

    1741 is when the magazine "American Magazine" came out, this is when magazines started to gain popularity and over the next few years, more and more magazines would be created.

  • Journalism

    Around the 1900's immigration and industry both boomed in the US. this lead to immigrants discovering hazardous work places and conditions in factories. this led to many questions from journalists of the 1900's that made journalisms popularity grow.

  • Radios popularity increased

    Around the 1940's the popularity of radios increased, people started using them over newspapers more and more. this is because it could provide much more information faster than a newspaper could, people also wanted to hear the news about the war in real time to know about their family.

  • Television dominates the media industry

    Around the 1950's Televisions became popular and started to dominate the media industry. Televisions were the best of both worlds, picture and sound, this forced print media and radios to rethink their approach.

  • Satellite communications

    communications between satellites allowed news to be reported from around the world. this allowed things like radios and televisions to communicate events in real time.

  • Phones

    Mobile phones were first introduced in Japan in 1979, they became a mass media when the first downloadable ring tones were created. soon most forms of media content would be added or accessible through phones.

  • Explosive media growth

    Around the 1980's media had a growth explosion, Televisions became even more popular, satellite televisions were competing, 24 hour cable was competing, and newspapers started to disappear

  • The Internet

    in around the 1990's the internet started to grow, it was a very new thing so wasn't extremely popular at first but over time grew and is now used by almost 5 billion people daily to do many different tasks including looking through media in many different ways.
