    This is the first place created that is specifically for physical education. This led to the first educators in this field to be hired.

    As germans came to America they started to integrate their culture into American culture one of the things was gymnastic and this caused and spike of interest in America.
  • First YMCA

    This is a place that allows both children and adults plenty of ways to have fun physical activity.
  • College competition

    Harvard VS Yale was the first college competition. It was a crew race this allowed other schools to start having these competitions.
  • Recognition of Physical activity

    This is the first time that physical education is required by the NEA. This allowed children to get activity with education integrated to help continue the development of them.
  • Founding of Advancement of Physical Education

    This was intended to try and help develop the PE program for the better. It also allowed a way to study the results of the class.
  • Conference on Physical Training in Boston

    This allowed all of the big figures in physical education to meet up and set clear their expectations of PE. This also allowed other people to come and learn and ask questions of this they are unclear about.
  • James Naismith invents Basketball

    This is an early example of creative physical activity where someone put something together and it is both a game and a workout. This encourages more exploration in this creative physical activity space.
  • Delphine Hanna

    This is the first woman professor in the physical education field. This encouraged other women to apply for this field and that it is possible.
  • The Playground Association of America is founded

    Luther Gulick believed that play was key for development in children. Playgrounds at schools would allow the children to be creative and also just play.
  • Clark Hetherington's Four Objectives

    The four objectives were organic development, psychomotor development, character development, and intellectual development.
  • Individual Efficiency Test

    This was the first physical fitness test. This allowed coaches and teachers a way to differentiate people and not make them have to do something they are not capable of.
  • The President's Council

    Due to low fitness tests in America president Eisenhower made it a requirement to get physical activity every day.
  • Division between men and women in sports

    This division helped women have a more fair competition and also to be more encouraged to play a sport.
  • First special Olympics

    This was the first National competition for people with special needs. This encouraged people with these to play a sport they have maybe dreamed of playing forever.
  • Title 9

    This made it illegal to discriminate against someone for their sex in anyway for sport.
  • PE added to national curriculum

    This made PE a requirement to graduate in America. The hope was to help children get into sport and not look at activity as a chore.
