Jamaica Discovered
On 1494 May 5 Christopher Columbus discovered Jamaica on his 2nd voyage to the indies. Then it was called Xaymaca from cubans who described the island "The land of blessed gold". Link text -

First Settlement
The Spaniards were the first people to settle in Jamaica, while it was still a spanish region. They settled in St. Ann's Bay area. Naming their first town New Seville. Which became their first Capitol. -
The English Attack
William Penn & Robert Venables attacked Jamaica. The Jamaicans surrendered to the english & freed their slaves. The set of freed slaves were later known as the maroons.
