In the past thirty years globalization has affected the world we live in greatly, though this does not mean all the outcomes of globalization have been good, resulting in a population torn between the pros and cons of the matter.

    Post-War Boom

    "The years following World War III witnessed stability and prosperity for many Americans." (Boundless). After WWII the US market grew substantially and the purchases of luxury goods began. These luxury goods would soon be made overseas and shipped to America.
  • End of the Cold War

    "With the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1989 and the end of the Cold War in 1991, the world became more interconnected. This is because the communist bloc countries, which had previously been intentionally isolated from the capitalist West, began to integrate into the global market economy." (Kahn Academy) The fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War allowed for a greater contentedness of the world. This opened trade between the West and many Eastern countries.
  • North American Free Trade Agreement

    "Free trade agreements, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which the governments of the United States, Canada, and Mexico signed in 1992, removed barriers to the free flow of people, goods, and services, thereby facilitating greater trade, investment, and migration across national borders." (Kahn Academy.) By opening free trade between Canada, America, and Mexico trade between Mexico and America has increased substantially. This has shifted many American jobs to Mexico.
  • People Protest Against Globalization

    "Yet the argument that globalization led to American cultural dominance ignored the appeal of the competition. At the time anti-globalization demonstrators were protesting in Seattle against the WTO in December 1999, children throughout America were gripped by the Japanese fad game Pokemon." ()
  • Child Labor Scandals

    During the late 90's and into the early 2000's the media was riddled with scandals of child labor occurring at factories for popular clothing brands such as Nike and Gap. Companies are still being caught in these scandals today.
