    Journal of Comparative Psychology, 21, 105-128. White rats were placed in problem boxes from which they were to escape. After some simple biological response such as scratching, crouching, and the like, the animal was allowed to escape and was rewarded with food. In all instances learning appeared. Certain implications for experiments on the effect of delayed rewards are indicated.
