  • Dr. Nehemiah's Paper

    Dr. Nehemiah published a paper documenting the series of fingerprints found in humans. He also documented ridges and the differences between them.

    Quoted as saying that the ridges are never duplicate between two people
  • Jan Evangelist Purkyn

    Described 9 different and distinct patterns
  • Sir William Herschel

    Began collecting fingerprints and noticed that patterns were not altered by age and differed from person to person, albeit in very subtle ways
  • Alphonse Bertillon

    Created a way to identify criminals called the Bertillonage which was used to catch repeat offenders
  • Sir Francis Galton

    Verified that fingerprints do not change with age. Along with Sir E.R. Henry, he produced a criminal identification and filing system still in use in Europe and the United States to this day
