The 1700's
Throughout the century, women kicked it up a notch. Hair gor bigger, dresses got wider, and everything got glitzier. The pannier gown started out as a floor length, form fitting gown. Of course, it got wider, and wider, until it was about 6 feet wide. -
The Early 1800's
At the beginning of the century, high waisted gowns, low, square necklines, and puffed sleeves were in style. -
1800's
Suddenly, being able to breathe was not a concern anymore. Ladies began obssesed with their "hourglass" figure. As their waist's got smaller, the skirts got wider and sleeves got poofier again. -
Coco Chanel was Born

1900's
Well, breathing became an issue once again. A "health corset" was designed so that your abdomen was raised up instead of pushing it inwards and down. This released pressure on women's organs which made it easier to breathe freely. -
1910
Clothing started to loosen up at the start of this decade. Once WWI started Gavrielle Chanel created dresses with low necklines and belts at the waist while male designers closed up shop to go to war. -
1920's
Things definitely started to change in this era. Dresses and coats became calf length instead of floor length. The typical flapper wore a short strapless dress, but that didn't come into style until 1926. -
1930's
The Great Depression turned things upside down. Woman couldnt afford buttons so they wore zippers for the first time. Also fur became very popular iun this era. -
1940's
Because of the war going on, American's could not fly to Paris to view the latest fashions, leaving them on their own to come up with something new and creative. Well, here is where lady's suits came into fashion. Shorter clothes and less fabric. Skirt lines and collar designs also changed. -
1950's
The war had ended which meant that women had houses to clean and children to take care of, Both women and teens dressed very preppy. Pants and shorts sounded crazy. -
