    The Industrial Revolution was a restorative period in time that impacted the manufacturing and industrialization of technology. However, this period also brought forth a plethora of changes the the family unit. Before these changes were brought forth, family was centralized and ordered, but with labor and 'norms' changing the family unit dispersed.

    Ellen Swallow Richard was as the first women to ever attend MIT. She then started the New England Kitchen which fed struggling people for a low cost. Which lead to the Rumford Kitchen. The Rumford Kitchen aided in the promotion of nutrition within food. She then aided in the school lunch program as well as the home economics program. Her hope with the HOME EC. program was to show to 'run' a good home.

    Dr. Murray Bowen developed the Bowen Family Systems or the Bowen Theory. This theory explored the notion that families and the people within them function as 'one' emotional system. This then made viewing them in the context on their families easier.
