    Construction of the Moia begins

    Around 1200 A.D. the diffrent tribes of Easter Island began their constuction of the symbolic statues.
  • Feb 14, 1500

    End of constuction

    Around 1500 A.D. constuction of the Moai has to stop due to limited resouces and conflict between the tribes.

  • Environmental Collapse

    Before this date of 1700 A.D. all of the trees on Easter island were cut down by the Rapanui tribe.

  • European Discovery

    On this exact day a dutch explorer named Jacob Rogenveen found Easter Island and gave it its name.

  • War Begins

    A war begins against the tribes on Rapanui.

  • Moai Toppling

    This started in 1774 and ended in 1838 and resulted in almost all of the Moai knocked over by rival clans.

  • Black-birding

    This is when the Europeans started capturing the Rapanui and using them for manual labor. This first started in 1805.

  • Lowest Point

    All but 110 Rapanui are dead at this point. Most of their culture and history is lost aswell.

  • Polynesians Arrive at Easter Island

    In sometime before 900 A.D. Polynesians arrive at EasterIsland on two large boats and are the first inhabitants.
