  • The First Arizona Junior College

    In 1920 the first community college was created. This is now the Phoenix College campus.
  • A New Name

    In this year the Maricopa County Junior College District (created in 1962) transitioned its name to be the Maricopa Community Colleges.
  • The Women Take Over

    In 1980 women became the predominate sex within the community college student body nation wide, accounting for 55% of the population. (Winter, pg. 20)
  • Estrella Mountain CC joins the MCCD

    Estrella Mountain CC joins the MCCD
    In 1992, EMCC became the newest community college to join the Maricopa family.
  • Number of Colleges

    At the turn of the century there were 1,076 community colleges across the United States. The MCCCD accounted for 10 of those colleges.
  • EMCC Buckeye Campus Opens

    EMCC Buckeye Campus Opens
    A small satellite campus of EMCC opened in Buckeye, Arizona. This campus is a full-service campus, including advisement, student study centers as well as financial aid services.
  • AJS at EMCC

    In the academic year 2017-2018, 33 students graduated from the Administration of Justice Studies program. I teach two courses within this program which is made up of students who wish to have careers in the criminal justice field.
