First Appearance
This is Batman's first appearance in Detective Comic #27. The graphic on his suit actually varied in each cell of the comic. The points on the bat changed but five points was the most consistant. -
Change Up
Batman's emblem is slightly changed. The bat now is fairly consistant with seven points. Allthough seven is more common now there are still five point bats in the comics. The bat is also givin a head in this variation. -
The 40s
The head is more visible as well as it has larger wings. The wings have a new line look. Most of the new wing lines are lost in coloring of the comics. -
Late 40s
These wings turned back to five point as it was seven point in '44. The wings became less angular. This emblem resembles the modern design for Batman. -
Curves
The wings began to curve until they were considerably rounded. It was around this point that the points on the wings stayed at 5 permanantly. The changes of emblem is beginning to settle for a design to keep. -
Compact
The design becomes compact again. The design is made triangular like early designs. The head gets slightly smaller. -
Thin
The design becomes wider. It gets thinner. The points on the wings become longer as well and definitley more prominent. -
Revert
The design goes back to the compact design. The head stays larger than the original. The design is again triangular. -
YELLOW
The design has a definite new look. The bat itself is a larger version of the '46 version but with a yellow background, Some speculate it was to make the bat easier to trademark but it was simply the desire for a new look. -
Done
The design curves the ends of the wings to fit the yellow oval. This design stays as the universal symbol for the Batman. Later on the design takes away the yellow for the suit but it stays for comic covers and ads.
