Compact Discs or CD's were introduced in 1982 in Japan. The first CD released was Billy Joel's "52nd Street". One year later, in 1983, CD's were released in the USA. It only took 3 years for CD's to overtake LP's as the top selling music media in the United States. In 1999 Record-able CD's became available. -

Napster
In 2000 Napster is released. Napster allowed people to easily share song files with each other. This new program led to the music industry drop in recording sales and accusations of total copyright violations. Although Napster was shut down by court order in 2001, it created the idea of free online file sharing and now there are several other programs that can be downloaded for free to get any music from anyone. -
iPod
In 2003 apple released the online music store to go along with the new iPod. iTunes allows the iPod user to manage audio and video on their computer. in iTunes, several things are possible. -

A portable music player is a consumer electronics device that allows users to listen to recorded music on the go. It is battery powered, and in some cases, accommodates the use of headphones for personal listening. Some early music players did not store music, but rather played music stored on other media. -
