    Stone Age

    Demonology, gods, magic. They believed that they were possessed by good or evil spirits. They also did trepanation to release the spirits.
  • 1300

    Middle Ages- The Middle East

    Islamic countries of the middle east continued the scientific aspects of Greek tradition. The 1st mental hospital was established in 792 AD.
  • 1400

    Middle Ages- Europe

    In Europe, it was a largely devoid of scientific thinking and humane treatment fro the mentally disturbed. They believed in exorcism.

  • Humanitarian Approaches

    By this time period, many people believed in mental hospital care. They started putting mental people in asylums which weren't good at all.

  • Deinstutitionalization

    They began discharging patients from the asylums and treating them as outpatients. Mental patients were only charged to mental hospitals if they were a danger to the society or themselves.
