History

  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
In this act anyone who bought anything that was printed also had to buy a revenue stamp. They enforced this act to show control over the colonies. The Stamp Act was significant in the road to revolution because it was the first direct tax that was imposed by the British Parliament. These taxes lead to the statement of Taxation without Representation which helped lead to the revolution.
  • Townshend Revenue Act

    Townshend Revenue Act
The Townshend Revenue Act placed a tax on imported goods like tea, paper, paint, lead, and glass. All these goods couldn't be made in the colonies because they had no factories to make them. This impacted the road to revolution because it taxed the colonists which made them very mad. They didn't want to be taxed on these goods, so it led to protests.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was where colonists threw rocks, snow balls, and sticks at the soldiers who guarded the customs house. Other soldiers came to break this up, but fired into the mob killing 5 people. The Sons of Liberty turned this on the soldiers and showed them as murders and killers in the papers. This influenced the road to rebellion by making the colonists despise the soldiers. They had killed some of their people and this helped lead to the rebellion.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
The Tea Act gave the British East India Company the ability to export its tea directly to the colonies without paying import or export taxes and without using middlemen in either Great Britain or the colonies. This lessened the gain people got on smuggled tea. This influenced the road to revolution by influencing the Boston Tea Party, the idea of taxation without representation, and the perception of economic monopoly. This escalated events that led to the decision to seek independence.
  • Coercive Acts

    Coercive Acts
The Coercive Acts were a punishment for the Boston Tea Party. These were four acts that affected the colonists. There was the Quartering Act, The Massachusetts Government Act, The Boston Port Act, The Administration of Justice Act. All of these acts took a piece of their rights away. This influenced the path to revolution because the colonists got sick of having their rights taken away. All they wanted was to be free from these acts and taxes.
