On August 5th, 1914 Canada joined Britain in the war with their allies. This was because Canada was a colony of Britain. -
Battle of Somme ~ Rating: +1 ($)
In the Battle of Somme they used tanks for the first time. This is a technological advancement for Canada. -
Conscription ~ Rating: -1 (! and @)
The Military Service Law was placed so that Canadians between 20 and 45 had to apply to the military. This was needed because not enough men were applying and they needed more soldiers. -
Jeremiah Jones ~ Rating: +2 (!)
On February 9, 1917 Jeremiah Jones and 15 other black soldiers were assigned to the Royal Canadian Regiment. At Vimy Ridge Jeremiah rescued his unit from enemy fire. -
Halifax Harbour Explosion ~ Rating: -2 ($ and !)
A French boat headed to Europe collided with another boat and exploded. The blast was the largest man made explosion of its time and over 1600 people died. -
Mae Belle Sampson ~ Rating: +1 (!)
She volunteered for hospital ship duty and on June 27,1918 the ship was bombed by Germans. Unfortunately, many people died including Mae Belle Sampson. -

On November 18, 1918 the first world war ended. This was great for Canada because we became more independent as a country and we signed our own name to the Peace Treaty. -

She was elected to the House of Commons as a member of the progressive party. She became the first woman as a member of parliament in Canada. -
Invention of Insulin ~ Rating: +2 (!)
In the spring of 1922 Dr. Fredrick Banting and Dr. Charles Best discovered insulin. This was one of the biggest discoveries in medical history. This is a drug to help with diabetes and began to save many lives. -
Women becoming "Persons" ~ Rating: +2 (!)
Before this act was changed to include women it blocked them from being involved in politics and state affairs.
