  • The Great Railroad Strike

    Railroad workers wages were cut down drastically. This led workers to protest and eventually begin destroying railroad property, to prevent the reopening of the businesses. State militia was called out to suppress the strikes. When they couldn't contain it, Federal soldiers were deployed all across the eastern states. By the end of "The Great Upheaval" approximately 100 Americans had been killed in the riots.

    Thomas Edison, a great inventor, filed for the first patent of the incandescent light bulb.

    James A. Garfield's presidency

    President James A. Garfield was elected into presidency on March 4th 1881. His term was the second shortest and ended with his assassination on September 18th 1881. He was the only member of the house of Representatives to be elected president.

    Chester A Arthur took to the presidential office after James A Garfield got assassinated. Chester was the 21st president of the United States

    Grover Cleveland's First term as president

    Grover Cleveland was the only president to serve two non consecutive terms as president. He was both the 22nd president and the 24th president of the United States.
  • The Dawes Act

    The Dawes Act was an order by the president that made Native Americans, living on reservations, have personal sections of land. If and only if a Native American accepted the personal plot of land could he become a citizen of the US.
  • Sherman Anti-Trust Act

    The Sherman Anti-Trust act was a federal law that outlawed the ability to have monopolized businesses.
  • Wounded Knee Massacre

    In 1890, members of the US army came to Pine Ridge, South Dakota to order the surrender of the Sioux Indians. However, a scramble broke out and a battle took place where close to 150 Native Americans were slaughtered.

  • Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris was a document made and signed by the United States and Spain. This document brought the end of the Spanish- American War. It also gave America control over Guam, Puerto Rico, and Cuba.
