Started January 1, 1865 ended around March 31, 1877. Covers the complete Reconstruction of the entire country and the Reconstruction of the south after the civil war. Freed African Americans from slavery and gave them the right to vote. -
The Industrial Revolution
The United States switched from goods being made by hand, to machines making goods. Almost everything in someone's daily life was changed and made better in The Industrial Revolution. It was a magor turning point in the United States. Ended around 1820-1840. -

Imperialism: Creation of the Panama Canal
The narrow land bridge between North and South America is the area where a canal was built to allow ships to travel by water between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Now instead of going around South America to get to the Pacific Ocean ships could pass through the Panama Canal which is a shortcut. This made trade much faster. -
Imperialism: The Spanish-American War
The Spanish-American War resulted from America's intervention in the Cuban War of Independence. It was a ten week war faught in the Caribbean and the Pacific. The result was the 1898 Treaty of Paris which created peace in the region. -
Imerialism: Acquisition of Hawaii
Queen Lili'uokalani was over thrown by a group of bussiness men. Then Benjamin Harrison submitted a treaty to annex the Hawaiian islands to the U.S. -
World War One
The sinking of the Lusitania was a big reason that the United States joined WWI. Another big reason was that the British intercepted the Zimmerman Telegram, a secret telegram sent to Mexico by Germany proposing that Mexico join Germany if the United States joined the war. -
Prohibition/Roaring 20’s
During Prohibition, manufacturing, selling, importing, or exporting was illegal. Prohibition was supposed to reduce crime, support better hygiene, and result in lower taxes. Instead Prohibition did the opposite. Organised crime was spread through out the country, alcohol became very dangerous to drink, and prisons became overloaded. -
The Great Depression and the New Deal
People put lots of money into stocks. By doing so, they made more money then they originally put into their stocks. On October 29, 1929 the stock market crashed. People went to banks and sold their stocks. Many banks across America went out of bussiness in under a week. Preseident Franklin D. Roosevelt helped the country get out of the Great Depression with the "3 Rs". Relief, Recovery, and Reform. -
World War 2
The United States did not enter WWII until Japan bombed American Navy ships in Pearl Harbor. The Bombing was on December 7, 1941. Adolf Hitler was incontrol of the Nazi trying to dominate all of Europe. Britain and France said that they would declare war if Hitler attacked Poland. He thought they were bluffing and attacked Poland anyway. This brought Britain and France into the war. -
Pearl Harbor
Japan Bombed American Navy ships in Pearl Harbor. This brought American into World War 2. 2,402 soldiers were killed and 1,282 military personnel and civilians were wounded. -
The Cold War
The Cold War was the name given to the relationship between The USA and the USSR. There was a lot of distrust between the two countries during this time. Both sides spent a lot of money building new weapons to destroy each other. -
The Korean War
75,000 North Korean Troops marched over the 38th parallel to South Korea. After many small battles, finally there was a standstill. They came to an agreement called an Armistice which ended the war and restored the border between North and South Korea at the 38th parallel. -
The Vietnam War
In Vietnam it is known as the American War. The U.S. government viewed American involvement in the war as a way to prevent a communist takeover of South Vietnam. This was part of America's goal to stop the spread of communism. North Vietnam won and spread communism to South Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. -
The Gulf War
34 nations led by the United States invaded Iraq. This was in response to Iraq's invasion and annexation of Kuwait. -
September 11,2001
Four passenger airliners were hijacked by 19 al-Qaeda terrorists so they could be flown into buildings in suicide attacks. The first planes were crashed into the North and South towers, of the World Trade Center in New York City. The third plane crashed into the Pentegon. The fourth plane was aimed for Washington DC but crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania after its passengers tried to overcome the hijackers -
Operation Enduring Freedom
Operation Enduring Freedom is the official name used by the U.S. government for the War in Afghanistan. It was an anti-terrorist war. Its main purpose was to catch Osama Bin Laden, the terrorist who led 9/11. -
Operation Iraqi Freedom
The United States was in Iraq trying to help it gain a stable government. The United States also kept violence down and helped to build schools for the Iraqi children. After 10 years of helping, 40 percent of the people there had jobs.
