    End of the Siege of Leningrad
    Starting on September 8th 1941, this siege by German forces lasted 872 days and was located in the city of Leningrad. It caused the death of hundreds of thousands of Russians and was one of the longest and most destructive sieges in history. The Germans mainly planned to kill the citizens by depriving them of food. The city reached starvation only after a few weeks. This siege ended on January 27th, when the German forces were pushed 60 to 100 kilometers from the city.

    Beginning of the Battle of Cisterna
    This battle took place near Cisterna, in Italy, between January 30th and February 2nd. It was a clear German victory, and after that fight, all the Ranger US forces and Italy were dissoluted. There were more than a thousand casualties.

    End of the Battle of Kwajalein
    The Battle of Kwajalein took place between January 31rst and February 3rd 1944. The United States bombarded over 15 000 tons of explosives on the island of Kwajalein Atoll and its surrounding islands. The battle ended with the victory of the USA, and after, the Japanese realized that beach-line defenses were too vulnerable to naval and aerial bombardment. The defense in the following battles would be much harder to overcome. 7,870 Japanese were killed and 105 taken prisoner.

    The RAF (Royal Air Force) drops the heaviest bomb of the war, to that point on the Gnome et Rhome, a major aircraft engine manufacturer, in Limoges, France. Everyone escaped from the factory, except one man who returned for his bicycle.

    Unsuccessful bombing of the Tirpitz
    In the night of the 10th and 11th of February 1944, the Soviet Air Forces once again attack the prized battleship of the Nazis, the famous Tirpitz. The Soviets sent 15 aircrafts, but only 4 reached the target, and there was no damage to the Tirpitz. This German battleship survived to more than 20 attacks, but was finally sunk by Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers on November 12th 1944.
