    In November 1975 President Gerald Ford signed into law the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (Public Law 94-142), or the EHA. The law was set forth to give children and their families with disabilities the opportunity for a free, appropriate public education.
  • Board of Education v. Rowley, 458 U.S. 176 (1982)

    This law came about when a deaf girl by the name of Amy services was denied because she succeeded higher than the typical child in her mainstream classroom. Amy's parents took the situation to court but the case was denied.

    A court case was brought against a school board that expelled a child with disabilities after he choked another child. The Honig v. Doe was a decision in a case in which the U.S. Supreme Court dealt with the issue of expelling a disabled child based on actions arising out of that child’s disability.
