First State Board of Education.
The First State Board of Education was created in Massachusetts and its first appointed secretary of Education was Horace Mann. This is a fundamental piece in the history of education because it was in a time where there was a major push for universal public school. This also indicated a time where schools were beginning to look at schools as a more important piece of society and something that needed immediate attention upkeep. -
Child Study Movement
This movement marked a time where the goal was to assist educators in developing the best ways to educate their students. This is particularly important because it allowed a deeper look into how a child thinks. The insight from this study provided better resources for teachers to use and be able to understand how their students learn most effectively. -
Brown v. Board of Education
This is a major turning point in education because it meant that schools were on a path to desegregation. The ruling was a significant step in African Americans receiving equal education. Although there was major push back after this ruling it still is to be noted as important because it allowed the integration and equal education process to start moving forward. -
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
This act outlined that individuals with disabilities would have equal rights to public education. The act is an important piece of educational history because this meant that another portion of society was allowed an equal chance at education. More students were therefore receiving a better education that was suited for their needs. -
No Child Left Behind Act
The NCLB act was an important piece in the history of education because it held schools accountable for student achievement. This act pushed schools to correct unequal achievement in schools so that each student had their best educational experience which is why it is a critical piece of education. Students deserve their best opportunities in education and this was one of the first pieces that pushed to attain that goal.
