Historical Timeline

  • Women's Suffrage

    Women's Suffrage
The 19th Amendment changed everything for women in the 1920s. But before this, If women wanted to teach, they couldn't. Women weren't allowed to teach if they were married or an "unnatural women." If there were no such thing as women's suffrage, public education would of never been as successful as it is to this day. Students are getting the public education they deserve because women get the opportunity to teach them everywhere with no laws against them for teaching.
  • Student-Centered Learning

    Student-Centered Learning
Student centered learning gives students the opportunity to lead learning activities. Students should be able to do research and conduct their own learning. This changed public education a lot because usually students would be doing activities that the school assigned but with student centered learning, teachers are engaging students to design their own learning projects, find topics that interest them, and design their own course of study. This led students to "self-paced" learning.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
The Brown v. Board of Education shaped modern K-12 public education to this day because it ended public school segregation. This case is one of the reasons why children are growing up learning that everyone is equal even if they are a different race. Students are getting educated all together rather than in separate classrooms and that is a huge impact in today's classrooms because students are getting the opportunity to learn equally.
  • PL 94-142

    PL 94-142
EAHCA gives public education for a child with a disability. In the classroom, children with a disability get to have the education they deserve. This act proves that all students get access to equal education. It also gives teachers the opportunity to learn how to educate everyone equally. Without this act, children with a disability wouldn't be getting any real education at all.
  • Getting Connected

    Getting Connected
Technology is used to help support both teaching and learning. It gives classrooms digital learning tools and students are able to access learning materials online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Students are more motivated to learn while using technology in the classroom rather that using a book. Technology also helps teachers personalize their teaching to improve their own instruction.
