Mills v. Board of Education of District of Columbia
In this case seven students were refused a public education due to their behavioral, emotional, mental retardation, and/or hyper-activeness. The school also argued that they did not have enough money to offered the needed classes for these type of students. The court countered the school's argument stating that the school system had the obligation to give students an education regardless of their disability.

Larry P. v. Riles
In this case the court ruled against schools using IO test for placement due to a high number of African American students being placed in special education classes. The Court argued that the test did not factor in economical and cultural backgrounds.

Board of Education Hendrick Hudson School District v. Rowley
Amy Rowley, a deaf student, was denied having an interpreter due to Amy passing all of her classes and being able to read lips. Amy parents believed Amy was not being offered the fullest potential of education. The court ruled against the Rowleys' stating the law was not put in place to ensure that every student is given the opportunity to reach its "fullest potential" but rather every student is given the opportunity to a "free" education.
