    -Citizens finally had the energy, the self-assurance, the money , and the interest in creating a democratic system of public schools after the War of 1812 ended
    -Education was overlooked many times, until people had the time to put effort into education.
  • Board of Education

    -The first State Board of Education was created.
    -Horace Mann was the head of the first State Board of Education
    -Massachusetts was the first state

    -seeking equity and excellence
    -attempt to hold states, districts, and schools accountable for remedying the unequal achievement among different student populations.
    -"Proficiency for all" is not logical and/or possible. Each person defines proficiency differently
