    Thomas Jefferson believed the United States needed a westward expansion, thus came the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Doubling the size of the country, almost 7 million american's moved to the west by 1940 in hope of new opportunities.

    America experienced rapid economic growth during this time period. Technology improved, politicians were corrupt and not very effective, many American wanted the same political and social reforms, and many immigrants came to the United States.

    Also know as " The Age Of Imperialism ", the United States expanded politically economically. It was also a time where the U.S. influenced other countries economic, cultural, and military wise. The influence of Social Darwinism Increased the belief that it was the United States fault for bringing certain concepts to the less developed societies.

    The Progressive Era was a time in history where citizens' main objective was to get rid of corruption in the government. They mainly targeted people who worked for the government and their bosses.

    World War I

    The beginning of World War I started when Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. Soon, Germany, Russia, Great Britain, and France were also in the war. The soldiers fought in trenches, which was difficult and millions died during the battle. The war eventually ended by influenza, and by an agreement being signed.

    The Roaring Twenties

    The Roaring Twenties was a time for change for woman and everybody in general. Woman started to embrace themselves and become the opposite of society's expectations by smoking, drinking, cutting their hair, etc. The economic also increased as well as cultural diversity.

    The Great Depression

    Thanks to the stock market crashing, everybody faced The Great Depression, Since money was low, bank runs were a necessity, but it also caused many bank failures. Money was also tight, so everybody had to spend wisely. Businesses had to raise the price of their products which wasn't good because nobody could really afford them anymore. The unemployment rate was high and the homeless rate rapidly increased. Housing prices fell as well as international/ global trade with other countries.

    World War II

    World War 2 is an amazing thing to talk about. The atomic bomb, island hopping, and all of the violence and outcomes of it all is very fascinating. The United States was very smart during this time because they came up with plans to sneak up on Japan & take them out, moving them closer to victory. Even though there were islands that were difficult to fight on, we eventually made it. Truman's decision to drop the atomic bomb helped the U.S. by keeping any more of our soldiers from dying in war.

    The Cold War

    The relationship between the United States and the Soviet Union was known as the Cold War. It all started post World War II and lasted for most of the second 20th century and resulted in tension, suspicions, and international incidents. The Cold War happened because they wanted to get rid of international affairs, but a growth in weapons of mass destruction grew.

    Civil Rights Movement

    African Americans were, and still are sometimes, treated badly. There was segregation and the Jim Crow Law which restricted their/ our rights. Many civil rights activists started non-violent protests and broke many laws against African Americans to make a point. Eventually, their action led for many inspirational people to be heard, such as Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, and many others. Some even lost their lives fighting for their rights.

    Vietnam War

    The Vietnam War was a result of the First Indochina War between France and the Viet Minh, aka, the communist forces. In the end, The North Vietnamese Army (NVA), killed thousands of South Vietnamese citizens after the Americans left. A fight with China was a must in order for the Vietnamese to secure their independence.

    Present U.S. in the 21st Century

    Me being born in the early 2000's, I've experienced a lot of amazing candy, snacks, toys, TV Shows, and so much more. Now-a-days, everything has gone downhill, but some things as very much improving. Technology for example, has boosted their designs as well as cars. TV shows have gotten more recognized, but it's still nothing like Arthur or Clifford The Big Red Dog. Everything in the U.S. has went up price wise, including the population. A lot of changes since the early 2000's have happened.
