Birth
I would consider my birth to fall under the categories of physical, intellectual and emotional development. Once I was brought into the world, I had my physical body which would begin to grow rapidly, I had an active brain which would begin to fill itself with knowledge and experiences, and finally my emotions would begin to develop. I understand that at birth babies have a “clean slate”, but because I can feel pain I would argue that pain would lead to sadness (crying), which is an emotion. -

My Life
Hello, my name is Michael Symington. I'm currently seventeen years old and will be turning eighteen in April. In this timeline you will find events and milestones that began since the day of my birth and up until very recently. The events and milestone listed will explain how I've developed in many different ways throughout my life. I hope you enjoy! -
Speaking for the First Time
Speech is significant to me because it reflects physical, intellectual, emotional, social, moral and personality development. Speech itself is a physical action; as I become more familiar with different styles of speaking my intelligence begins to expand too, as well as knowing when to say certain things in different social structures. My speech starts to become incoherent when I'm emotional, and fast when I'm talking about personal beliefs. I chose speech because I enjoy listening to vocabulary -
Taking My First Step
My first step is classified as physical and intellectual development because walking is a physical action and it’s intellectual because my body is recruiting motor units to perform patterns of walking and my brain is what moves my body. This was a big change for me because I could get around a lot easier by walking rather than crawling. It’s important because my first step was the beginning of walking; later in my adolescent years I began to develop an interest in running. -
Going to Sr. Kindergarten at Southridge
Entering Sr. Kindergarten is tied into intellectual, social, emotional, moral and personality development. I met a lot of people who engaged my thinking ability, who made me feel many different emotions, who helped me understand how to socialize in school, and who helped mold my personality at such a young engage. This was one of the first times I was around other children; I never went out much in my younger years. I put this on my timeline because it's the first time I was around lots of kids. -
Met my Best Friend -- Mitchell Croth
Mitchell helps me with physical, intellectual, emotional, social, moral and personality development. He makes me think hard, not just using cognitive processes, but by influencing my emotions and moral decisions. He pushes me in the gym to become better. He has helped me socialize with others over the years and has influenced my personality greatly. I chose to put him on my timeline because he’s had a large impact on my development and I plan on keeping him in my life forever. -
Made Lots of Friends at Meadowlane Public School
Going to Meadowlane public school from grades one to six helped me develop intellectually, socially, emotionally, morally and affected my personality. Long story short, going to Meadowlane had the same effects on me that entering senior kindergarten did; it just enhanced my development even more. The only difference is that in Meadowlane was that I happened to be around kids of different ages which meant I was put into a different social structure where my behaviours might have varied. -
Going to a Birthday Party for the first time
Going to my first birthday party affected me socially and emotionally. I was given the opportunity to share happiness and excitement with others due to a celebration for my friend David. I developed a stronger understanding of what it’s like to share feelings as well as being part of a social group. I chose this event to be on my timeline because it’s one of the times I remember being together with all of my oldest and closest friends. -
Lost a LOT of Weight
I lost about forty pounds over three months, which affected my personality, physical being, emotions and socializing abilities. I felt very happy and more confident once I lost weight; my father moved which meant he stopped feeding me junk food and I began exercising more. I felt that my self-esteem rose and that I could go talk to other people with ease, even if I did happen to be shy. I chose this to be on my timeline because once I began losing weight I noticed my life changing for the better -
Entered High School
High school had a huge influence on my intellectual, social, emotional, moral and personality development. I was brought into a social construct full of drugs, alcohol and mischief. I made moral decisions such as not doing drugs, and my teachers & friends influenced my personality and intellect. Being around people of different ages exposed me to emotions I wouldn’t have felt in other schools at a younger age. High school is a big factor in my life and will determine my future. -
Went to my first Party
My first party greatly affected my intellectual, emotional, social, and moral developments. Consuming alcohol for the first time showed me how I would think, feel, act, and how my decisions would be made when under the influence. I felt that it was a great learning experience and that you actually meet a lot of new people. I chose this as an event because it was memorable and enjoyable.
