    What is a Hero? The Subway Hero
    Here we watched a video about Wesley Autrey, the "Subway Hero" who risked his life in order to save a complete stranger's. We wrote our definitions of heroes. Here, I said that a hero was one that would risk his life to save others on a split second decision.
  • Why Courage Matters

    Why Courage Matters
    On this "First Chapter Friday", we were a read an excerpt out of a book by John McCain called "Why Courage Matters". We read about Roy Benavidez, a war hero who also risked his life to save countless others'. My hero of a definition changed- I believed that courage does matter in becoming a hero.
  • Interview with Kristi Quillen

    Today we watched a video interview with a former teacher. She gave up everything in her life to become a Peace Corps voulenteer to help others. She changed my definition of a hero- anybody can be a hero- they don't have to risk their lives. The just hve to show compassion in what they do.

    Today we did a class activity about heroes in literature. We learned that not only the character is a hero, but the authors themselves can be too.

    Today I checked out my book about my hero, Aung San Suu Kyi.

    I read the first chapters in the library of my book on Aung San Suu Kyi. It enhanced my background knowledge on her life and upbringings.

    Toady we learned about the different categories of heroes. We learned that even children can be heroes, such as Tuesday Muse, and so can musicians, such a Michael Jackson.

    In this activity my definition of a hero broadened. We watched videos such as the "Badly Drawn Boy" or the Liberty Mutual Insurance ad showing people how to change the world. I believe that you can do small acts of kindness that impact the world a lot, creating a hero in everyone.

    Here, I explained that I picked my hero, Aung San Suu Kyi, because my mother grew up in Myanmar and she had a big impact on her life.

    Here my definition a a hero expanded even more to almost all the people in the world. Everyone, I believe, has a little bit of heroism in them. Whether or not they use it is up to them.

    Today, I talked with my mom about my hero, Aung San Suu Kyi. I realised that Suu Kyi is even more of a hero than I originally thought.
