    Queen Ka’ahumanu

    Queen Ka’ahumanu was King Kamehameha I favorite wife, and shared power with King Kamehameha II after his death. She ended up changing Hawaiian history forever by convincing King Kamehameha II to do away with the kapu system.

    Queen Kamamalu was King Kamehameha II favorite wife, and was a very showy figure in Hawaii and around the world. She died in London in 1824 of measels.

    King Kamehameha III

    King Kamehameha III reigned the longest of any Hawaiian monarch reigning for 30 years. During King Kamehameha III reign, Hawaii had three different forms of government: the controlled regency of Ka'ahumanu; the autrocracy of an unpredictable Kauikeaouli suddenly with strong power; and the constitutional monarchy. He also use The Great Mahele, a system of dividing land.

    Queen Kalama was the consort of Kamehameha III, and was said to have been very well loved by the Hawaiian people.

    Princess Ruth (Keanolani)

    Princess Ruth (Keanolani) refused to speak English or convert to Christianity, and as a result people often misjudged her intelligence. She never inherited the throne but did inherit vast amounts of land.

    King Kamehameha V succeded his brother Alexander in 1863, and created a new, less liberal constitution. He died without ever naming a successor.

    Queen Kapi’olani

    Queen Kapi’olani served as Kalakaua's personal representative in London in 1887. She also is responsible for having founded a maternity home, now called Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children.

    King Kamehameha IV

    King Kamehameha IV was the husband of Queen Emma, and was considered to be very pro-British. He was essential in starting the Anglican Church in Hawaii, and he died at only 29 years old.

    Queen Emma ruled with Kamehameha IV, and they founded The Queen's Hospital. Considered pro-British, they were essential to the foundation of the Anglican Church in Hawaii. The King died at age 29 and she was unable to take the throne.

    Elected King in 1874, King Kalakaua was a complex and controversial Hawaiian leader. He was forced to accept a constitution that greatly limited his power.

    Queen Lili’uokalani

    Queen Lili’uokalani, one of the most famous and well know Hawaiian queens, reigned from 1891 to 1893. She wrote music, and had many hobbies. She was overthrown in the end.

    Princess Likelike

    Princess Likelike was the mother of Princess Ka'iulani and she died mysteriously at the age of 37. Some say she made a prediction before her death that Ka'iulani would leave Hawaii, never marry or become queen.
