Harriet Tubman was born in 1822 in Maryland. She was born into slavery, with her family. She was a civil rights leader, and helped many escape slavery. -
Abusive slavery
Harriet Tubman was severely injured in the head by a metal weight that was aimed at another slave. This really told Tubman that slavery wasn't right and she wanted to do something about it. -
Father freed
Tubman's father was manumitted when he turned 45. Which means he was freed when he was a certain age. -
Tubman gets married
Harriet Tubman married a free man named John Tubman. -
Financial Crisis
Harriet fell ill. Her "owner" died and left the plantation in a dire financial state. 3 of Tubmans sisters were sold. -
Escaping!
Harriet and her brothers escaped the plantation. The brothers had second thoughts and went back, publishing an $800 reward for Harriet. -
Becoming a criminal
Fugitive slave law was passed as a part of the compromise of 1850. -
Making history
Harriet took her first trip to guide her family and others to freedom in the north. She did this using the Underground Railroad. -
Continuing history
She took her last mission to rescue her sister and later dieing in 1913, dying of pneumonia at age of 93.
