    Hitler Named Chancellor of Germany
    Adolf Hitler, the leader of the Nazi party, was named chancellor of Germany by President Paul von Hindenburg, and when Paul died became President himself. Along with Hitler becoming president, came many new laws, but most of Germany agreed with Hitler's beliefs and stance on the future of Germany.   • Boycott of Jewish Businesses

    Boycott of Jewish Businesses
    Not long after Adolf Hitler became Chancler of Germany, he started to take action against the Jewish People. The announcemnt of this boyott meant that Germans were not allowed to buy from Jewish shops and businesses. Nazi soldiers would go around to every Jewish business and label it in a way to let German people know not to go there.     Nuremberg Laws are Passed
    In Nazi Germany, Nuremberg Laws were passed attepting to take away rights, and humiliate Jews in Germany. These laws stated that Jews could not be German citizens. These laws completely took away Jewish people's rights. It prohibited Jews from marrying anyone who was not also Jewish.     The Jesse Owens Incident
    When at the 1936 Olympics and African American won, nobody was more impressed than Rudy Steiner. Rudy reinacted the whole 4x100m relay to the last detail. The "crowd" went crazy, until Rudy's father, Mr. Steiner, walked in like "the bogeyman in a suit". Mr. Steiner was appauled at his son, grabbed his ear, dragged him home, and had a long, political talk with him.

    Kristallnacht
    "The Night of Broken Glass" was a series of attacks on Jewish shops, buildings, houses, and synagogues. It was a terrible night of many deaths of Jewish people. Along with the killings of Jews, many of them were forced into concentration camps that night. German officials and soldiers took no action on this horrible event. This is sometimes thought of as the start of the Holocaust.

    Beginning With Death
    Throughout the long trainride to Himmel Street, Liesel, her brother, and her mother faced many struggles. Lack of food, cold, sickness, and soon it became too much for Liesel's brother Werner. Eventually he died in the train, his life ended with "an intense spurt of coughing". Werner and Liesel were both supposed to be dropped off at a house on Himmel Street because their mother could not take care of them in these hard times, but now that Werner died, Liesel was there all alone.

    The Sound of Sirens
    In the middle of the night, with no warning, Liesel and her family awoke to the sound of sirens. Having to leave Max, the Jew they'd been hiding, at home they grabbed full suitcases and ran to the closest shelter. Himmel Street was peacked together in a chaos of running, screaming, and crying at the shelter
  • The Punishment

    The Punishment
    Hans Hubermann had broken many rules that, when in Nazi Germany, you shoud not break. You do not help a Jew on the streets, you do not hide a Jew in your basemt. When the Nazi party took back their word on not wanting Hans, he knew something was up. That same week, a statement came and said Hans Hubermann was drafted into the German army.

    The End of the World for Liesel
    In the middle of the night sirens were howling, but it was too late for Himmel Street. Everyone was sleeping as the Earth exploded underneath them. Liesel was the only one on Himmel Street who didn't die during that night raid. She was left with a destroyed homeland and death.

    Adolf Hitler Comits Suicide
    After the Battle of Berlin, Adolf Hitler realized that the war had been lost and his reign was over. Not wanting the shame of being killed by the enemies, he killed himself. Not only did he commit suicide he is claimed to also have killed his mistress, Eva Braun.   • Germany Surrenders

    Germany Surrenders
    World War Two ended with the surrender of Germany. After losing many battles throughout the war and Hitler commiting suicide, Germany was beat. So, on May 7th, 1945 Germany surrendered to the Western Allies and Soviet Union.
