GTA
GTA was released in 1997 for the Playstation and PC in Europe, and in 1998 for North America. Sound Design for GTA reflects modern New York City, and the underground crime scene. There are civilian screams, police sirens, gun fire, and car noises. These sounds are used throughout the series. It also includes radio stations you can use while driving. The songs are all original for the game. -
GTA 2
GTA 2 was released in 1999 for the PC and Playstation. Each area features five radio stations from a pool of eleven, one of which is heard as the player drives most vehicles in game. Changing radio stations for preference was also possible in the Windows PC version by using the "F1" function key and also in the PlayStation version by pressing the "up" directional button. Sound effects are similar to the original, but reflect the near future setting. -
GTA III
GTA III was released for the PC and Playstation 2 in 2001. It is the first game in the series to have 3rd person view, and a very open world. Voice acting is dramatically improved from the first two. The radio stations have original songs, as well as licened songs. Sound effects reflect the New York City setting. There are commercials that advertise fake products as well. It is a much more realized world because of these features. -
GTA: Vice City
Vice City was released in 2002 for the Playstation 2 and the PC. It is set in the 80's in a fictional city similar to Miami. The soundtrack reflects the time period. Sound effects and character voices have close similarity to Scarface. The songs are mainly from real life artists in that tmie frame. -
GTA: San Andreas
San Andreas was released in 2004 for the Playstation 2 and the Xbox. It is set in the early 1990's, and the soundtrack and effects reflect it. The game is set in three areas that are modeled after Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. There are radio stations that reflect the areas. Samuel Jackson voiced the main antagonist Officer Tenpenny. -
GTA 4
GTA was released in 2008 for the PS3, the 360, and the PC. It is set in Liberty City in a modern time. There are 18 radio stations, three are talk shows and the rest are stations with different genres. With the radio stations in Grand Theft Auto IV, each sound file is held separately, and sequenced randomly, allowing songs to be played in different orders, announcements to songs to be different each time, and plot events to be mentioned on the stations.
