    I was named Greta in May of 1837. I was the youngest of 6 children. My mother and father are both Irish. Every morning i had to carry water a mile to the house so my mother could do the wash. i didnt mind. I was 10 when we left. we left to find work and because of the Irish Famine. I am now 62 and wanted to share my story with the world.

    The great Irish Famine
    The Great Irish Famine starved many people, however, me and my family were able to leave to America. I was only 10 years old. By the time we reached Ellis Island it was April 22nd 1848.

    After we were officially citizens of the United States, we decided that then best thing to do was to travel West. We went to California in search of gold. That year, two of my brothers and my oldest sister died of a terrible diease.

    Me being 15, I read Uncle Toms Cabin. I couldn't believe how racist people are.

    I was 23 when Abraham Lincoln was elected president. My 2 brothers and father was drafted into war and my sister served as a nurse. Four long years later, they all returned. I remember finding out the President was shot and died early that morning.
  • New inventions

    New inventions
    A lot of new inventions were made. The telephone was invented. The light bulb so we can see at night. Only that luxury was too expensive for my family to have. By the time the Photograph was invented I was 40. Many other useful inventions were made.
